Review: ‘Pro ODP.NET for Oracle Database 11g’

I’ve just scanned through the Pro ODP.NET for Oracle Database 11g by Edmund Zehoo and before I’ll forget a short opinion.

If you need something between the ‘Oracle® Data Provider for .NET Developer’s Guide‘ – a 1.5k pages long ODP.NET documentation that covers every class and the ‘Oracle® Database 2 Day + .NET Developer’s Guide‘ – a quite short 150pp long quick, step by step introduction to ODP.NET, this book is just what you are looking for.
Covers in detail and with (C#) examples all feautres of ODP.NET. With quite nice chapter on best practices and simplistic implementation for Enterprise Library 4.1 DAO block (although you might be better off looking what is there in 5.0 version)

You will also learn a few things you might not be aware (having no previous exposure to ODP.NET), like Statement Caching, support for globalisation or Change Notifications. However, that is nothing new to anyone who spend last two years fighting corporate battles to migrate all these 7, 8 and 9 Oracle instances to something more modern 🙂

Definitely worth to scan through, but I’d rather lend or buy a used copy…
